Simon Posford和Raja Ram在1997年合组Shpongle.Simon是Twisted Records的创办者, 以Hallucinogen为名,推出一首又一首让人无法自拔的Trance;Raja Ram是个吹笛的老先生,Shpongle里的经典旋律都是他的杰作,他在1969年创立Quintessence乐团,以印度音乐融合爵士和前卫摇滚,在当时的全球Woodstock嬉皮风潮中,应该在英国独树一格吧.Shpongle是一个Trance音乐的组织,利用电子仪器混音合成并以人为出发点创造出一种新的Trance音乐风格,很多人觉得他们的音乐是Psytrance,也有很多人觉得他们的音乐是Ambient…他们的音乐极富包容性,融合了西班牙语,印度,中国,非洲国家的味道;在电子合成器下加入了brazilian batucada beats, flamenco solo, piano solo等器乐以及一些处理过的人声…他们的音乐风格是十分多元化的,不能以一种风格来定义.Ambient? Simon Posford and Raja Ram are Shpongle, an ambient techno/trance project formed in 1996 after the pair viewed a solar eclipse in India. The two went into the studio and attempted to duplicate the experience in sonic form, and the result was a 20-minute track, “…And the Day Turned to Night,” which was featured on a Twisted label compilation titled Eclipse. Shpongle’s full-length debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released in early 1999.
